Nama Khoi Local Municipality Mayor, Councillor Rodney Kritzinger, was honoured as the keynote speaker at this year’s AFASA Heritage Day celebrations. The African Farmers Association of South Africa (AFASA), a key player in promoting the commercial development of the country’s agricultural sector, hosted the event to highlight their mission of advancing black farmers’ participation in mainstream farming.

AFASA aims to empower African farmers by creating a sustainable, united body that can influence agricultural policies through lobbying and advocacy. The organization’s strategic objectives include equipping black farmers with the skills needed to thrive in both formal and informal markets. Additionally, AFASA is dedicated to mobilizing resources for the benefit of African farmers, ensuring they can play a meaningful role in the agricultural economy.

Mayor Kritzinger’s presence at the event underscores the significance of these efforts, especially in regions like Nama Khoi, where agriculture plays a crucial role in economic development and social cohesion.

In his keynote speech, the Mayor expressed his support for AFASA’s initiatives and emphasized the importance of including previously marginalized groups in South Africa’s agricultural transformation. Kritzinger also encouraged young farmers to seize opportunities provided by organizations like AFASA to further strengthen their contribution to the nation’s food security and economic growth.

As AFASA continues to advocate for policy changes and resource mobilization, events like the Heritage Day celebrations serve as pivotal platforms to honour African heritage while addressing the challenges and opportunities within the agricultural sector.
